DOCUMENTARY - The Birds, Alfred Hitchcock

This scene is created to be full of suspense. "He lets the viewer in on more than the people in the script know. e.g. At the schoolhouse, she sits on a bench and more and more birds gradually sit- she doesn't see whilst she nervously smokes. The audience can't stand it anymore as the anxiety is built up as slowly the camera repeatedly reverts back to show us scenes of the birds behind her.
The image that mainly influenced Hitchcock for The Birds was The Scream painting by Edvard Munch and was "the icon for the whole thing": I find it interesting that film has taken its influences from paintings, and paintings can also take influenced from film again.
