In a group crit we had on 9th November, Mediation is the Message, we had to work in a small groups and present each others work, which involved meeting up before the crit and learning about each others work, which was really interesting, as it made us think about how we described our own work and each others and we had to be very clear about it as the others would be telling the group about your work, without you speaking.
During the crit, which was really useful as you seemed to be learning about your own work as others talked about it, people gave comments which suggested their thoughts about who the women in the drawings are, some people recognised the actresses, and someone who hadn't seen the film Rosemary's Baby said that the drawing of Mia Farrow "I imagine she would maybe be carrying a kitchen knife for some reason", which I found really interesting, as they hadn't seen the film, and the knife isn't included in the image, or the scene that I used the still from, but they imagined what sort of situation that character could be in, and that shows that people were thinking about what could be happening to the women in the drawings, and making their own meanings or narrative, which is what I'm interested in achieving through the work, as I don't want to tell the viewers too much, I am interested in what people imagine is happening. Not everyone who views them will have seen the films, and not everyone will think of them as film characters but they will see them as women and can imagine what could be happening to them.
Comments about the work also included mentioning the fact they are alone figures, and the sense of isolation, and also paranoia, which I found quite appropriate, along with the fragility of the characters.
